Farooq specialises in Treasury Management and Market Risk and has held senior management roles in Treasury, Sales and Trading, and Market Risk Management while working with Citigroup in New York and internationally. His last position with Citibank was as Managing Director and head of Market Risk Management in Global Emerging Markets, as well as the head of Cross Border Risk Management. He also served on Citigroup’s Capital Markets and Banking Risk Management Committee representing Emerging Markets, and was a member of the Citigroup Country Risk Committee. Farooq was the Head of Sales and Trading and Treasurer of Saudi American Bank (SAMBA) which he built into the pre-eminent bank for treasury products in KSA, and played a key role in assisting the Saudi Arabian Monetary Agency in the creation of the Saudi Riyal domestic bond market. In New York, he joined the Office of Corporate Finance to head up International Treasury Coordination. Simultaneously, he became a Member of the Market Risk Policy Committee and Regional Treasurer for Citibank’s CEEMEA Region. He then served as Head of Sales and Trading and Treasurer for Citibank in Mexico before returning to New York as Global Head of Trading for the Cross Border Finance Group. Farooq then became Regional Treasurer and Member of the Market Risk Policy Committee for Latin America. Upon the merger of Citicorp and Travelers, he was appointed as the first head of Market Risk Management for Global Emerging Markets.
